Firmware, logic, and system interfaces

Design the behavior, not just the code.

Firmware and digital logic have to match the hardware, timing, interfaces, and failure states of the product. We define the behavior and develop the software work around those boundaries.

Software design areas

Make the behavior explicit.

Design areaDesign focusEngineering objective

Firmware

Bare-metal or RTOS architecture, drivers, state/control logic, diagnostics, and fault response.

Specify timing, recovery, and fault-reporting behavior.

FPGA + adaptive SoC

Digital logic, data paths, and hardware/software partitioning using VHDL, Verilog, or HLS when warranted.

Allocate functions to logic or software based on timing and resource needs.

System interfaces

Interface contracts, protocol translation, and error handling across device and host boundaries.

Define what crosses each boundary and how failures are handled.

Connectivity + tools

Monitoring, operator interfaces, and test tools when the assignment calls for them.

Give the team a way to command, observe, and test system behavior.

Across the interfaces

Software must fit the hardware it controls.

Sampling rates, interrupt budgets, actuator limits, and connector-level signals determine what code can do. We work through the dependencies instead of leaving them for integration.

Code ↔ electronicsDrivers, resources, signal paths, and electrical fault states
Code ↔ systemTiming, protocol contracts, operator actions, and safe states
Code ↔ testLogs, observability, repeatable checks, and open issues

From open question to plan

Start with the product need. We’ll shape the work together.

01 / Bring

Start with what you know

Tell us what the product needs to do and where its behavior is uncertain. Share any hardware, interface, timing, or failure-case details you have—we can help identify what’s missing.

02 / Define

Shape the problem space

Together, we clarify the software’s required behavior, timing, fault handling, and interfaces with the hardware and wider system.

03 / Plan

Lay out the approach

We present the recommended scope, cost estimate, schedule, and expected delivery.

Start with the technical need

Let’s define the behavior the product needs.

Bring the device objective, the known hardware, and the unresolved behavior. We can discuss a bounded next step.

No completed specification is needed for an initial conversation. Tell us what is known and where the uncertainty sits.
